You’re Not Lazy. You’re Just Out of Rhythm.
Have you ever woken up, looked at your to-do list, and thought, “I don’t want to do any of this”?
That sense of heaviness, flatness, or fog can be so frustrating—especially when you’re someone who cares deeply, shows up consistently, and has big intentions.
But if you’re feeling unmotivated to do anything today, I want to offer you a gentle reframe: it might not be a problem. It might be a pattern.
In fact, I recorded a full video on this exact topic—on a day when I didn’t feel like recording anything. (Spoiler: it was the New Moon.)
Why You Feel Unmotivated to Do Anything (Especially During the New Moon)
Our world runs on linear time—always on, always producing, always improving.
But your body, your emotions, and your spirit? They follow cyclical time. The Moon changes phase every few days. Your energy does too.
The New Moon, in particular, is a time of internal focus. It’s quiet. Subtle. It invites rooting rather than reaching.
So if you’re feeling unmotivated to do anything during a New Moon, that doesn’t mean you’re off track.
It means you’re in sync—even if it feels unfamiliar.
The 3-Step Framework for When You Feel Unmotivated to Do Anything
On days like this, especially during lower-energy phases, I come back to this rhythm-based approach:
1. Acknowledge the Energy Honestly
Say it out loud. Write it in your journal. Whisper it to yourself: “I don’t want to do anything today, and that’s okay.” Naming the truth takes the pressure off. It stops the spiral of guilt and opens the door to grace.
2. Adapt the Task to Your Current Energy
If it’s a creative task, let your emotions guide it. If it’s a logistical one, ask: What’s the smallest, most essential piece I can do today? You don’t need to bulldoze through resistance. You can collaborate with your energy instead.
3. Reconnect to Natural Rhythms
This is my favorite step. I ask myself: Where are we in the lunar cycle? What is that phase calling for? The answer alone is often enough to shift me from pressure into perspective. It reminds me that I’m part of a larger pattern—and I don’t have to fight it.
Want to Work With Your Energy (Not Against It)?
I created a free guide to help with exactly this: The Moon Phase Compass. It’s an instant-download tool that shows you what each Moon phase means, what to focus on, and how to stay grounded through every cycle.
✨ Download it here. It’s simple, science-aligned, and soul-friendly. No fluff. No guilt. Just rhythm that makes sense.
Final Thought: You’re Not Failing. You’re Flowing.
We’re not meant to be “on” all the time. Showing up doesn’t always mean powering through. Sometimes, it looks like gentleness, honesty, and doing the thing imperfectly—but still doing it.
If you’ve been feeling unmotivated to do anything lately, take a breath. You’re not broken. You’re becoming more attuned. And that? That’s sacred work.
In rhythm,
Laura
